Environment & Sustainability

As eco-conscious accommodation, we’re committed to caring for the environment. As an arid climate, the Algarve is often in a state of drought and we are required by law to conserve water.

Your accommodation is fitted with water-saving taps and slow-drain systems to help reduce water usage. In our gardens, we are only allowed to carry out limited watering (which is why the grassed areas are brown in summer) and have planted native, drought-tolerant species that thrive naturally in the Algarve. We are gradually changing the whole garden to a mix of native Algarvian plants and sustainable covering.

You’ll see areas where wildflowers are left to grow freely to support local pollinators and help preserve biodiversity. Because of this natural approach, our gardens shift with the seasons: lush and green from autumn through spring, then golden and sun-drenched during the dry summer months.

Water & Energy Use

  • Turn off taps while brushing your teeth

  • Keep showers short and sweet

  • Switch off lights, heaters, fans, and air conditioning when not in use or when leaving the room/property

  • To reduce the need for electric heating or cooling, please follow our ‘Climate Control’ tips below.

We kindly ask all guests to be mindful of the environment during their stay. Small actions make a big difference! Here’s how you can help:

Recycling

Each kitchen is equipped with bins for both general waste and recycling—please separate your rubbish accordingly. If you need to dispose of extra waste, you’ll find public bins (including recycling) on the main road just outside the property.

Climate Control

Warming the Room Up

Each room has a heater for your comfort. You’ll find the user manual in the property. If you need help, please just ask.

To get the best results:

  • Keep windows and doors closed while the heater is on.

  • Use the timer setting if you only need the room warm for a set period.

  • Use the in-built thermostat control, we recommend 20 degrees.

  • During the day, keep windows closed but open the curtains to let in natural sunlight—it helps warm the room naturally.

Cooling the Room Down

Even in summer, Lagos tends to cool off nicely at night.

When it gets warmer:

  • Each room is equipped with a fan. Please turn it off when not in use to help conserve energy.

  • To keep the heat out during the day, close the windows, doors, and the curtains. This helps block the sun and keeps out hot air so that the room stays cooler.

Laundry Facilities

Should you wish to do laundry during your stay, you’ll find a shared washing machine located between the intersecting patios.

Please be sure to remove your laundry promptly once the cycle is finished so others can use the machine.

The Algarve is a drought-prone region and subject to water restrictions. We kindly ask that you be mindful of your water usage while using our laundry facilities. Please avoid washing small loads or running unnecessarily long laundry cycles.

As this is a shared facility, we kindly ask that you help keep the space clean and tidy for everyone.

A drying rack is provided in your accommodation for your convenience.

If you need any help with the machines, please just ask.
